Prosecutors announced that the former security guard had been arrested six weeks after police in Sanford, Florida, allowed him to walk free, leading to outrage across America. Speaking at a press conference, Angela Corey, the Florida State Attorney, said Zimmerman had voluntarily turned himself in, and was now in custody. She added that she had first discussed the case with his mother, Sybrina Fulton, and father, Tracy Martin, who she described as “constitutional victims,” when she took over the case three weeks ago. "The first thing we did was pray with them. We did not promise them anything," she said. Speaking at the press conference 44 days after her son's death, Miss Fulton said: "We simply wanted an arrest. Nothing more, nothing less and we got it and I say thank you.
